Danny Brown & Tony Yayo - Trippin’ (ft. Lil B)
Yeah…I know…what an epic three way artist combo. I bet you probably never knew about Tony Yayo and Danny Brown’s 2010 mixtape Hawaiian Snow…or that Danny Brown almost got signed to G-Unit a couple years ago. The mixtape is good, but it definitely could have been better. Tony Yayo doesn’t exactly stack up to the other two for this song, but it’s overall feel is still swagged out beyond belief. If your super fucked up, this song is perfect. Danny Brown really kills it. Thank you Based God!

Lil B - Gon Be Okay
The other day I played this in my car while riding with a couple friends. After 30 seconds one of them asked “Wow this song is great! Who is this?”. When I told them it was Lil B, they thought I was joking at first. Once they heard Lil B actually say his name in the song (which he does frequently), one of my friends stated “I don’t understand how this is by Lil B…I mean, this is actually good”.
I’ll admit, Lil B has a huge library of songs and most of them are trash, but (as I’ve stated before) some songs, such as this one, are actually really amazing. Lil B has an intelligent side to his flow, and he doesn’t show it nearly enough. This is from his surprisingly decent album “I’m Gay”, and it’s my favorite song off of it. This is also one of my all time favorite Lil B songs.

Lil B - The Age of Information
When he isn’t on his Based God swag shit and boasts an intelligent flow such as this, he’s an amazing talent that hip-hop could definitely use. It still really boggles my mind that he can make songs that are just straight up sooo fucking bad it makes me want to puke, but then occasionally makes music like this ambient-smeared beauty. I really hope he becomes more consistent on his future projects.

Played 893 times.I have a love hate relationship with Lil’ B. It’s MUCH MUCH more hate than love. Whenever he decides to use his intellect and makes a meaningful track it can be pretty phenomenal. So he definitely has some undeniable talent. Unfortunately, this almost never happens. I mean, his song “Age of Information” is REALLY damn amazing. I know he has the ability and know how to produce outstanding music, but he seems to have this ego that makes him do shitty stuff. It’s as if he has the impression that he’s so swag he can do ANYTHING on the mic and the public will love it, regardless if it’s actually good or not. The thing is though, I feel his perception of what makes good music and what doesn’t is also blurred by his ego.
I feel he believes that such things as rapping off key doesn’t make the song sound shitty, no…it shows that he doesn’t have to do it the way it’s always been done because he’s better than that. By purposely ignoring certain fundamentals of dos and don’ts and making his own rules, he feels he’s leading a new age of hip-hop. In fact it just shows he’s a HUGE dumbass with a HUGE misguided ego that needs to get his act together.
Uniqueness goes a very long way in hip-hop (Odd Future won’t be anywhere with out it), but purposely trying to sound shitty to prove your unique and by being unique your music isn’t shitty but actually really good doesn’t actually work in the real world. It might work in Lil’ B’s brain…but I’m guessing he has a Lil’ Brain.
I did enjoy his “I’m Gay” album, but it was fairly average. It could have been amazing, but alas… “Gon Be Okay” tis my favorite song off of it.
Really though, I still have my hopes up. I’m hoping he decides to start making amazing music and looses his misguided perceptions about himself.
